I haven't tried this yet - but my MIL says it works great for scones, too.
3 Tbs. active dry yeast
1 C. warm water
1/2 C. plus 3 Tbs. sugar
4 tsp. salt
1/3 C. vegetable oil
4 1/2 C. hot water
15 C. flour
1/8 tsp. vitamin C powder
Sprinkle yeast and 3 Tbs. sugar in 1 C. lukewarm water; let sit. Combine remaining sugar, salt, oil and water. Add flour until it makes a stiff dough that leaves the side of the bowl. Knead for 8 min. Place dough in oiled bowl. Turn to bring greased side up. Cover and let rise until double in size. Place in greased pans and let raise to about double (approx 30 min.). Bake at 400* for 30 min. Makes 4 - 5 fairly large loaves.
